Welcome from the Principal

Dear Parent

As the founding Principal of St Alban’s Academy I am very proud to be continuing the work begun when the Pollock brothers opened the first St Alban’s School in 1871.

As an academy, St Alban’s is starting a new phase that I believe will bring great opportunities to all our students. Our governors and the city council agreed that St Albans should become an academy as a further major step in raising attainment and embedding high achievement as a defining feature of our school. Our sponsor, ARK Schools, runs six other inner city academies and was selected because of its track record and its unwavering commitment to doing whatever it takes to help students raise and realise their ambitions and fulfil their potential.

St Alban’s Academy is firmly rooted in the Parish of St Alban and St Patrick, with the support and commitment of the St Alban’s Trust and the Church of England Diocese of Birmingham. The Priest in Charge of the parish is Chaplain to the school, leading a multi-faith chaplaincy.

Our core values and expectations are built on the twin pillars of our inclusive Christian mission and the academy’s specialisms in engineering and mathematics.

We challenge our students and staff to make the most of their God given talents, so that each individual can maximise their contribution to society, making the world a better place for us all.

Our mathematics and engineering specialisms prepare young people to succeed in higher education and equip them with the skills and personal qualities they will need in their professional lives. Mathematics and engineering have applications in every walk of life and every career and their practical applications help us to solve human problems. So the graduates of St Alban’s Academy will have a big part to play in addressing the challenges that face our world.

Our students are an inspiration and source of hope for the future. Each of our students is uniquely gifted and has enormous potential. Our task is to help realise that potential.
