Key Stage 3

In Key Stage three we lay the foundation for future learning. A key focus is ‘learning to learn’ whereby we help students to develop their thinking skills.

The differentiated curriculum allow the most able students to progress quickly and enjoy a wide variety of enrichment activities while addressing any learning deficits through high quality teaching and targeted programmes focused on developing literacy, numeracy, study skills, self-confidence and motivation.

Our students are typically positive, articulate, artistic, full of ideas and good with their hands. They learn best when challenged to find solutions to practical problems in a real life context. They produce imaginative, innovative work and make good progress with their basic skills.

Learning is structured to provide a variety of learning styles with a particular emphasis on the visual and kinaesthetic in the context of a practical and vocational curriculum with strong links to the outside world.

Year 7
The Year 7 curriculum gives new students the best possible start to secondary education. For those who need it there is a strong focus on literacy and numeracy. Students benefit from a daily reading hour and other targeted literacy interventions.
Year 7 students are taught by a small team of teachers and have one special teacher who teaches them for a large part of the week, easing the transition from primary school.
Many students are already familiar with the academy and some of our staff through attending our Saturday school or our Summer Literacy School.
