Our specialisms: mathematics and engineering.
Our Engineering and Maths specialisms have the following objectives:
- to raise standards of attainment across all areas
- to contextualise, unify and lend coherence to the curriculum
- develop independent learners who understand the connections between disciplines
- to support cross-curricular and project based learning
- to use engineering processes as unifying elements, applying problem solving techniques and relating learning to real life contexts, across the curriculum
- to explore engineering and maths as means of developing solutions for challenges in the world such as economic under-development and poverty
- to provide a pathway for our students to develop into economically productive citizens concerned for the moral and spiritual wellbeing of others
- to explore ethical issues including respect for the natural environment and the creation and distribution of wealth
- to enable our students to gain the full benefit of the resources of our city and local economy
- to provide high quality academic and vocational education by working with Aston University, Matthew Boulton College of Further and Higher Education, BMW Hams Hall, Arup and Cadbury
- to enable students to learn about engineering and maths through practical links with local engineering and manufacturing companies
- to work with industry and further and higher education to enhance our curriculum and prepare students for progression beyond 16
- to enable students to understand the potential of engineering as a high status academic as well as practical discipline, of importance to the local and national economy
- to use engineering as a focus for learning and a way of thinking right across the curriculum and especially in maths, science and technology
The ARK Maths Network
All ARK academies specialise in mathematics. We invest in the resources to attract, train and support the best maths teachers. We aim to produce confident and proficient young mathematicians. We will ensure that all students acquire skills as early as possible and take part in external exams that offer appropriate challenges so that they can progress up the maths ladder swiftly. We will help every student to maximise their skills and qualifications and offer those with particular ability the chance to accelerate their achievement in maths and further maths.
